Serenity: Carved from Stone

Heavy stone covers the grass and ground of Serenity at it's lowest levels, but life is determined and creeps through the edges and cracks to explode into life, flowers finding purchase to spread into new life. A space is made for the first tree, candles burning around it to light the way to the first of many staircases up into the sky. Thick grass, it's color reminiscent of emeralds, supporting large buildings made of heavy stone bricks and embellished with narrow but tall carved entrances, windows and doors alike - eyes looking up into the sky. Each layer of jeweled grass, each heavy set of stairs, leads upwards to more platforms, more stairs, more enormous halls open to the elements. On the third level up the bay comes into view, and beside it a narrow reach of stairs making their careful, inevitable way downward again to meet the water.

Serenity: Lotus Lights

From high on the wall, hidden steams send water flowing down into the  bay below, liquid catching and streaming over stones with their voices echoing off the high walls. Lotuses cover the water's surface, turning their pink faces up to the sky and bathing in the mist from the cascading falls. Will o' the wisps float temptingly over the surface resting on a leaf here, a petal there, their bright lights luring travellers to go deeper, explore further, seek out new experiences in the sandy soil that gives birth to the flowers of rebirth. The stairs on either side are lit with candles whispering in the wind; one ends in a platform, the other rocks barely a foot above the surface. The surfaces are slippery here, light gleaming against rocks wet by the steady splash of the sea.

Serenity: In Memorium

At the highest plateau, looming over the bay, is the World Tree hung with rings and lights. Light and dark mingle at the ends of chains, dark metal rings make balls within which suspend white lights that flame into dusk and green branches whose creamy blossoms hang low below the ball of opposites. Below, a heavy stone block sits in memorium.

Death is before me today:
  like the recovery of a sick man,
  like going forth into a garden after sickness.

Death is before me today:
  like the odor of myrrh,
  like sitting under a sail in a good wind.

Death is before me today:
  like the course of a stream;
  like the return of a man from the war-galley to his house.

Death is before me today:
  like the home that a man longs to see,
  after years spent as a captive.
